"Don't Let Me Down"
Phil’s comment: I loved they way Beli played this song because she mixed both elements of the album version and the acoustic version, but I wasn't pleased with my vocals.  I did a few retakes but the vocals kept going higher than the guitar, which didn't sound right either.

Beli’s comment: I liked the way this one turned out, but the keyboard parts that I mocked on my guitar didn't come out as well as I expected. Phil’s vocals are great, except for what he mentioned about the volume levels being off.

"End It On This"
Phil’s comment: As far as I know, No Doubt never did this song acoustic so Beli did a great job of playing it on acoustic guitar... she did a great job mixing the overlapping guitar, too.  I love that we did the little "open up" bit at the end like in Live in the TK because I'm just a freak like that.

Beli’s comment: This was definitely the hardest song for me so far. It took me a million takes to get it right all the way through, but it was worth it, and after hearing it with the vocals, it became my favorite.

"Magic's in the Makeup"
Phil’s comment: We did two versions of this song.. one more like the album version and the other like the acoustic one on the Rock Steady tour.  Overall I was more pleased with the second take.

Beli’s comment: This is the prettiest acoustic no doubt song! I don’t know what else to say, Phil pretty much summed it all up already.

"Too Late"
Phil’s comment: This seriously took me like a hundred takes because every time I thought I got the whole song right, I'd mess up a lyric in a line or I'd sing just off a little bit.  Then I got lazy and didn't work on the song for about a month... but it turned out really well.

Beli’s comment: Yep, this one took me a hundred takes too, it’s a hard song to play all the way through.

"Simple Kind of Life"
Phil’s comment: Really happy with the way it turned out.  Changed some of the lyrics around to direct it in the other direction.

Beli’s comment: This is a really simple song to play, but the way the guitar blends with the vocals is so amazing, I’d never get bored of it.

"Under Construction"
Phil’s comment: We wanted to do more of the obscure songs instead of all the singles.  The vocals sound a little distant or something but I still really like the way it turned out.

Beli’s comment: I have to admit, I hadn’t even heard this song more than 10 times before Phil mentioned it as a song he wanted to cover. I tried my best to figure out how to play it and then I fell in love with it. It took me several takes though, because I wasn't familiar with it.

"Underneath it All"
Phil’s comment: The very first song we did.  Beli posted a snippet of herself playing it on the official forum and I talked to her a bit and got her to send me a full version.  I put some vocals over it (I think I had the flu when I did this) and it came out pretty good so we decided to do a full album because we're nuts and have big dreams. Nothing wrong with that, right?  Right.

Beli’s comment: This one’s not one of my favorites because I sort of sucked back then, but its still special because like Phil said, it’s the first one we ever recorded. His vocals on this song are my favorite, though.

"Everything in Time"
Phil's comment: Both Beli and myself were pretty much in love with the song since we first heard it when Boom Box came out and we immediately decided to do a version for the album. It came out almost perfect, I think, minus the obvious overlapping vocal.

Beli's comment: Although both versions of this song are beautiful, we chose to cover the L.A. version, since it has more of an acoustic feel to it.
